Saint Savvas of Serbia and medical science

pages: 255-265

Abstract

The Author expounds the relationship between the theological and the scientific — medical conception of truth, in the light of supernatural healings, on one side, and the medical cures, on the other side. In this context he examines the historical role of St. Savvas through his characteristic activities inspired by mercifulness and prayer. He has been the founder of the scientific medicine and pharmacy, as well as of social care, in Serbia. The unfading message of St. Savvas to our medicine of today is: science cannot bear fruits without Christian Love and prayer.
