Historical and theological conceptions of St. Ignatius of Antioch

translated by: V. K.

pages: 121-130

Abstract

Ignatius’ main pattern of interpretation of the Biblical history is the theological insight into the Divine plan of salvation stated as veterotestamental messianic prophecies and their neotestamental fulfillment.

St. Ignatius had to defend the nascent Church both from Judaism and helle- nistic Gnosticism. Thus he prepared the soil for the later development of theology in St. Justin the Philosopher.
