pages: 567-582

Abstract

The Orthodox Church in Bosnia and Herzegovina went throw a very difficult period from 1766 to 1920. Major political changes at the global level left a large impact on Orthodoxy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Time from abolition to renewal of independence of Serbian Patriarchate was characterized by struggle of Serbian people for re–establishing the national church. They also fought for right to identity and national dignity which was contested in various ways and representatives of Church and people had to accept a variety of compromises in order to achieve maximum legal recognition. With today’s historical distance is somewhat possible to see how hard and demanding work that was.
